Homesick

I miss Sundays at home. I miss sitting next to my family in church and wiping sacrament water drops on Kaitlin's arm and having conversations on the program and stick wars with Braeden. I miss having Sunday school with adults. I miss playing hymns and primary songs on our baby grand. I miss having more than one level to a home. I miss opening pantries. I miss yelling my siblings names all over the house in weird voices. I miss my momma and dadda saying, "We're leaving! If you're coming get in the car now!" I miss going to Costco and getting smooodies. I miss the District theater and going to movies with my family. I miss my pussies. I miss kissing them on the head and hearing them meow and talking to them in cutsie voices. I miss driving a car. I miss convincing my parents to eat at Iceberg just so we can get shakes. I miss our DVD and VHS collection. I miss watching tv with my parents. I miss having a ceiling fan. I miss watching my dad play video games. I miss falling asleep on the floor. I miss the library and putting things on hold.

Yes, college is fun. But pretty much growing up sucks.

AHHHHHHALSKDJKFTYRJWAJ!!!

I feel like punching someone's face off.

Ok. Ok. So, here comes the rant.

So I organized my inbox the other day, sorting emails into different folders according to class so my inbox isn't a complete mess of useless and important emails all mixed together.

Well.

So the way both my English professors tell us our schedule for the day/week is by email. I was a little concerned that I didn't get any emails from them this weekend, but I didn't think much of it. So today in ENGL 201, I hear some students talking before class about a play they saw and a response they had to write. A little panicked, I pulled out my syllabus and frantically checked to see if we had any assignments like that in the course. We didn't, so I calmed waited for class to start.

As I found out quickly at the start of class, it turns out our professor DID email us this weekend. Needless to say, I didn't get it and started freaking out inwardly. And, of course, the internet chooses at the moment to stop working so I couldn't see if it was in my junk mail or something. Apparently, BYU had put on a play on Monday at 5pm, for free, that pertained to the Iliad or the Odyssey or Oepidus Rex or something that we've been reading. And for extra credit, we could see it and write a one page response for. . . get this. . .
25 EXTRA CREDIT POINTS!!!
ONE page for 25 FREAKING POINTS! Seriously, I'm so mad right now. Because guess what I was doing yesterday at 5pm. Nothing. Watching Doctor Who and relaxing, because I thought I had nothing to do. >:{ I don't know if I feel like screaming or whimpering. I'll probably do both. Oh, and I did find the email. I had sorted the sender email address into the wrong folder which was in a bigger folder, so I didn't see it. If that makes sense. :(

And on top of that, I totally flubbed in front of my ASL class. Signing on top of the email fiasco and being on my 13th hour of being awake is no good. My hands started shaking and my brain just locked up and I couldn't think of how to sign anything. And my story sucked. Pffft. :(

Sigh....I do feel better now though. Ranting does have its emotional advantages. :] Ok. . . now to prepare for three tests this week! :D . . . :| . . .*head hits desk*

I need a popsicle.

Quick! Type like a Fiend!!!

I only have 20 minutes until my next class starts. The blog bug bites at the strangest of times. :]

Whoa. Cute boy just walked by. He had scruff. :D hehe

Anywho. Blog post. I'm sitting on the fourth floor of the library, stuyding for ASL 202 and impatiently waiting for the moment I'm free of campus and on my way home. And although 'life update' posts aren't really my favorite (I feel so obligated to post all the time if I do that) I think one is in order. I believe a bulleted list will do nicely:
  • College! Yay! My second year at the fabulous BYU has started! :D My classes are going fine and the social life is slowly working its way up. ;] This semester I'm taking ENGL 295, ENGL 201, ASL 202, New Testament, BIO 100, and University Orchestra. Whew! So far 295 is my favorite, though my professor is the hardest grader I've had yet. :S The subject of 201 is really interesting (classical lit) but the actual class is a bit dull and stressful. ASL is amazing of course--my professor is the best! So hilarious. Biology is just a huge lecture class filled with freshmen. Not hard but I'm still a little miffed I have to take it at all. My NT teacher is also great. And orchestra of course is super fun, though 1/4 of my music is in A, a 1/4 is in C, and only 1/2 is in Bb (my instrument's key). Basically, lots of transposition on the fly, but nothing too bad.
    • Ok, funny story real quick. So one conductor told the clarinets that we had to get A clarinets for her piece. I really didn't want to (A clarinets, at least at Riverton, are of the devil) but I got one anyway. Well it turns out that it's wood and has way better tone than my clarinet. Go figure.
  • Work. I work from 5 to 8:45. In the morning. Kinda killer, but as long as I'm in bed by 10pm I seem to do just fine. I clean the BYU Bookstore and now get a 20% discount on everything in there, on all 3 floors, which is amazing! If you've ever been in there, you'll appreciate that fact. :] My boss is pretty cool and my coworkers are nice. We don't talk much because who wants to conversate before 6 in the morning?
  • Roommates. I'm rooming with both Whitney and Emilee again, whom I love very dearly. Mystery girl #4 turned out to be Jessica from American Fork, and she fits in so perfectly! We're all getting along so well--let's just say our apartment is the best on in Park Plaza. :D
  • My bike. I brought my bike this year for school and its been amazing. Except its stuck in 5th gear... but I still ride it everywhere. Just not up hills. :D
  • Valeney and Kaitylin! They're here at BYU with me this year!! :D YAAAAY!!!! I mean, last year was great but its even better with them here. :] Sometimes we eat lunch together on campus. Its so great to have people here that you already know so well (I mean DUH we grew up together) and can take an hour or so to act however you want around and know that they'll understand and still love you. :] Or at least know that you're normally more normal. :D haha
  • Yesterday I thought I'd be awesome and bake some cookies. I only put half the flour it called for in the dough. Ya. I'm smart. :}
  • Megamind. I just thought I'd mention how wonderfully fabulous and hilarious this show is. I lurve it. A lot. Pretty much just watch it soon if you have the chance.
Well, not  bad for only having 15 minutes. Hopefully I'll post again soon! Though I know I say that every post.... :D

Bye!

All Wrung Out

Today has been an emotionally draining day.

Did I strain a relationship or get in a fight? Did I witness a death? Did I come to question the meaning of the universe?

No. I watched a television screen.

Pathetic, I know, but it's true. Sadly true. I'm a pathetic romantic.

To answer your burning questions, the day started out with watching the last 4 episodes of Doctor Who that had David Tennant (the 10th Doctor) in them. Really, it was only 2 episodes, but they were both two part specials. Seriously...that last episode before he regenerates into the 11th Doctor is So. Sad. *clasps chest*  Ah! Even just thinking of it is so depressing! If you're not a Whovian, I suppose you won't understand. I won't attempt to explain Doctor Who. That would take a whole post of its own.

Then I realized that my state scholarship has ended. That was some real-world sadness. Apparently, I have 70 credit hours, and the scholarship cuts off at 65. PFFFFTT!!!! That's what I say to that. :( Now I have to pay half my tuition myself. Um....so if you guys know where/how to apply for scholarships not related to a college, some suggestions would be much appreciated. :]

Then I watched Bourne Ultimatum. Awesome action movie, but in my state (from said Doctor Who) it was particularly hard and cold. And sad. But still awesome.

Then I finished watching a 50 Best Moments from Harry Potter special that aired before HP 7.2 premeired. I was reminded of just how much I love Harry Potter--the books, the magic, the childhood. I mourned the curse of growing up and had a good long nostolgic attack.

Finally, I decided to watch Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog for the first time before bed. I meant to watch it forever ago, but just never got around to it. Well, it made me laugh and cry. And I'm officially in love with it and it's music. And it put me in this weird, semi-philosophical mood to write a blog post. By the way, if you haven't seen it, you have to. It's amazing. Just look it up on youtube. You're welcome. :]

Anywho....yep. That's all I have to say. I'm a pathetic film-watcher who revels in depressing stories. :D

So, ya know--just another midnight post brought to you by Amanda's night owl brain (it's a curse)

*Insert Interesting Title Here*

After staring at my not-updated blog for almost a month, I get the urge to write at 12:26 am on a Saturday night. No scratch that, a Sunday morning--sorry. Strange, I know. But then who ever said I was normal? :]

Obviously, quite a bit has happened since March 16th. I finished my first year of college (WOOOO!!! I really should've made an independent post on this, but alas the time for it has passed) and moved back to Herriman for a summer of craziness. My older sister Valene returned from her mission in Tulsa, OK (AHHH!!....also probably should've had a post of its own...) and got engaged and is going to be married June 27 (EEEE!!!). I got a job at Arctic Circle (glamorous, I know. You're jealous.) to pay for next semester's bills. And I'm planning two bridal showers (well....ok. My mom and aunt are helping :D ).

Hmmm...well when it's all written out, it doesn't sound that crazy or busy, but believe me when I say it has. In one whirl-wind of a week we got most of Valene's wedding planned, including the dress, reception, tuxes, and temple all reserved/bought. And then Kaitlin, Braeden, and Marissa have end-of-the-year concerts, performances, projects, and meetings. Us three older girls have jobs and only one car between us, which makes for a rather exciting game of car-shuffling/chauffering every day. (Car situation = need for a close job = Arctic Circle. Hence, my present employment, in case you were curious). Kaitlin was chosen to play with the Utah Symphony in a special youth performance (YAY! Kaitlin, you're a mad, talented genius), and so is driven downtown most everyday for practice, which means my free time is allotted to filling my mother's role of driving Braeden and Marissa to various places. Then I have exactly 16 days to pull together a fabulous bridal shower. Oh, and work, which is much more stressful than I anticipated. I have sore stress muscles in my neck and shoulders to prove it.

...So I don't know why I decided you needed to know all the stresses in my life. It's not really all that bad, just not the relaxed summer I thought it would be.

Um...yep. :]

The initial thought that prompted me to write this update was how heartbreaking it is to suddenly realize how far apart you've grown from people you consider your best friends. I mean, it's nothing that should be surprising to me--I've moved enough times to know that distance does eventually weaken friendship, no matter how 'best of friends' you were. Its just....depressing I guess. To find it happening again. Though I made three incredible, close friends at BYU, they're now in England, Nepal, and Kentucky, and quite unavailable for hanging out. Though emails and crazy postcards are quite fun to get. :]

Anywho...now that I've thought myself into quite a depressing state of mind, I think I'll get some sleep so I can wake up and make some brekkie for my Moma in the morning. :]

...or maybe I'll just read until I fall asleep. :D haha

Happy Mother's Day to you all!

Smoothies--Joy in a Cup

What you're looking at is a cup of pure goodness.

Mmmmmm...

Frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, and pure orange juice.
No additional sugar needed.

I took this picture 6 minutes ago and it's already gone. :'(
But what a good way to get me through Friday homework.
YUM!

John Carter

Some quick housecleaning business: so treating my blog like a diary/journal is way too intimidating, hence the lack of postage. So here is my solution--I write about movies I've seen or fun, singular events that have happened in my life. That way I don't feel like I have to fill you in every time I go to write a new post. Ok, on with the scheduled news since you probably don't care about this note anway.

JOHN CARTER OF MARS

That's right--bask in the awesomeness of this poster. :} My art major roommate has made me realize just how much I movie posters.

Ok, so I saw this movie last Friday and IT. WAS. AMAZING. Honestly. No joke. I loved it so much! It had action, romance, and most of all, sci fi. I love science fiction SO much. Probably a little too much... :D Oh, and it was pretty much all shot in Utah and as you all know, I am absolutely in love with this red desert of a state. Utah is so beautiful with its breathtaking geography and gorgeous colors. AH! I get to go to Goblin Valley in a month!! :D :D *sigh*...sorry, freak-out moment. Anywho, back to John Carter--sweet fight sequences, hilarious moments and dialogue, amazing costuming and production design (seriously, their armor and tatooing was so sweet...), and it had some of my favorite actors in it, most notably Mark Strong. I LOVE him. Seriously, he is such a great actor and has such an intriguing face. The aliens were also really well done. The CG was exceptional and I only thought about the fake interaction between actor and imaginary alien 2 or 3 times in the whole movie (fyi, that's low for me--I think about filming processes a lot :} ) The movie even had a Seeker (tv show...ya, too long to explain now) monster-massacre part in it. (Kaitlin!...*waggles eyebrows*) :D haHA! So great. Everything was just so great. And let it be noted that only a small portion of this is Amanda-freaking-out-about-something-stupid, the rest is completely legitimate. It was honestly the absolute highlight of my weekend...week...month. :D

Ok, I think I've reached my limit for seriously's, honestly's, and awesome's in one post. :] Let me just end by saying that it would be well worth your time to see this movie. Ignore the critics negative reviews and its mediocre performance in the box office--I thought it was awesome.

Um, ya. I'm done. Go. Go see. Go see now! :D

LOST

Well, I guess I should start this post out by saying SPOILERS!!! Kaitlin, I swear if you read this, I will personally come through the computer screen and tape your eyes shut. It won't be pleasant.

Ok....I don't even know where to start. Oh, I guess I should mention that Madeleine and I finished Lost tonight. :D Oh boy....pretty much the last episode was one of the best episodes EVER!!! I mean, why is everyone so upset with the ending?! AH!!! JACK DIED!!! D: Sorry, everything is still sinking in....I think I may be in some sort of mental paralysis or shock. I guess Jack dying was a huge sad thing. Pretty much almost ripped my heart out when Vincent lied down beside him. And the alternate reality was actually limbo...so I guess they're all dead. I have to say I was surprised that they didn't keep the alternate reality thread going. But it makes sense. And Kate has to live her life without Jack! :(  Sigh...I'm definetly going to have to sleep on all this. Sorry if this post is confusing. It is almost 2am in the morning. :]

Sigh.....I love Lost!!! :D

A Dawning Realization...

I am sitting in the library with no homework to do and 20 minutes before I have to start walking to my next class.

This is extremely strange.

I did the one quiz I had to do and now I don't have any homework. For the rest of the day. What am I going to do with myself??

Dude....

After class I can just go home and make a yummy yum lunch and snack and watch a movie! I don't have to worry about procrastinating! I'll have nothing to do until I need to go to work!

:D

Today is a momentus day!! Who knew a Wednesday could ever turn out so happy? :D

...4 months later

Ahem.

So. As the title suggests it's been 4 months (and 3 days, to be exact) since I last posted. Needless to say, much has happened since October Conference. I feel a list coming on! :D
  • Work! I've been working at the SWKT since the last week of November. It's pretty nice...I clean the entire 9th floor for 4 hours a night. Pretty solitary, but I get to listen to my zune, so it all works out. :]
  • YouTube! Sometime in Nov/Dec I caved and made a youtube account. I know, I'm way behind the times, but youtube is now on my favorites bar. :D haha, yes. Momentous enough to be put on the list.
  • Winter Semester! Yes, I survived my first semester of college and passed all my classes without my head exploding or imploding. I'm now taking Geology 101 (FABULOUS class! So fun and my professor is so hilarious and awesome), ENGL 251 (also amazing. Literature class with great classmates and good discussions), ASL 201 (Deaf professor who is hilarious and I only have 13 students in my class), PL SC 110 (could definetly be worse. Good professor, humungo class, but not too hard), and of course Book of Mormon (another wonderful professor, who's tests are easy :D ). A nice and easy 15 credit hours with a 20 hour job. Not too busy, not too...not busy. Haha :]
  • Books and Movies!! I've seen so many new movies since October! Unfortunately, I can't remember them all, and even if I could I don't think you all would want to read about them for an hour. :] I also got 27 new movies for Christmas and 14 new books! :D Let's just say that all my shelf space is taken up by books and DVD's, with some hedgehogs here and there, and I wouldn't have it any other way. :]
  • LOST! Ok, I may have mentioned this in an earlier post, but my roommate Madeleine has gotten me completely hooked. She owns all 6 seasons and we're almost done with the 5th!! We might have finished this weekend, but she went home for the Super Bowl today. Pshhh...who needs huge shouldered men chasing after a ball when there's a crazy-island-soap-opera tv show to watch! :D :P
...ha! Sad, I can't think of anything else to put on the list....shows you how action-packed and exciting my life is. :P Well, two of you requested a new post and you can now consider that request officially fulfilled! Sorry it's about 3 months late.... :D

Sidenote: the funny thing is I actually started two separate posts in these silent 4 months, but never finished them and never posted them. Just a fun fact, which may or may not be fun but is definetly a fact.
